Bulgarian Rose Fields in May
Plan a visit to Bulgaria during one of its most colourful months – May. Visit the famous Valley of Roses, where once 75% of the world rose attar was produced. The tour highlights include as well the romantic Koprivshtitsa museum town, the capital city Sofia and the oldest continuously inhibited town in Europe – Plovdiv, which we will visit by train with care for the nature.

Day 1 Sofia
Arrival in Sofia. Check in at your central hotel.
Private walking city tour of Sofia – the capital city of Bulgaria, which Constantine the Great once called “My Rome”. Visit Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, St Sofia 6th c basilica, the Parliament Square, National Theatre and the Old City Garden, St. George 4th c rotunda, the ruins of Ancient Serdica, Presidency.
Welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant (degustation menu).
Day 2 Sofia Karlovo – Skobelevo – Shipka – Kazanlak
Breakfast and departure to Karlovo, a small national-revival town, located in the Valley of Roses. Our tour will continue further to Damascena Rose distillery and Kazanlak – the centre of the Valley of Roses, known as well as the Valley of the Thracian kings. En route you will visit rose fields, sites and learn the rose-picking rituals, will see a traditional rose distillation process and taste some rose products. Overnight in Kazanlak.
Day 3 Kazanlak – Koprivshtitsa – Sofia
Morning visit of Kazanlak Thracian tomb ( UNESCO site, copy ), Visit the nearby Shipka memorial church for some pictures before proceeding to Koprivshtitsa museum town. Walking tour along the narrow cobbled steets, see the arch-like bridges, stone fountains, colourful houses high-stone walls with big gates, which create an inimitable romantic atmosphere. Evening back to Sofia.
Day 4 Sofia – Plovdiv – Sofia
Today we will explore Plovdiv – the 2nd largest Bulgarian city, European capital of culture in 2019. Plovdiv is regarded the oldest continuouslu inhibited town in Europe. We will travel by train from Sofia to Plovdiv and back, thus making my small contribution to sustainable travel and environmental protection.
In Plovdiv, we will walk along the longest pedestrian street in the world and visit the Old Plovdiv Architecture reserve to see the Ancient Theatre, The Ethnographic museum, St. St. Constantine and Helena Church, Djumaya Mosque Sqare and the ruins of the Roman stadium.
Back to Sofia in the late afternoon. Overnight at the same hotel.
Day 5 Sofia
